Transformational Tools for thought are a byproduct of doing original work on serious problems

good tools for thoughts arise as a byproduct of doing original work on serious problems
- Insight through making loop. Getting into the feedback loop where deep insights about a problem feed back to change and improve the system, and the changes to the system results in deep original insights about the problem.
- this requires the medium to be malleable enough to incorporate learnings and be updatable to fit the users evolving needs

  • The “insight-through-making loop” says that when the medium is sufficiently pliable you can keep bending it until the structure of the medium itself begins to reveal the hidden structure of the problem. In other words, the medium should do three things: make it easy to capture sparks, make it inevitable that important sparks resurface, and make it frictionless to evolve both the representation and the resurfacing rules whenever they stop serving you.
